Attendance

Attendance Policy

To receive credit or a final grade in a class, a student must attend the class at least 90 percent of the days it is offered.

All absences, excused or unexcused, may be held against a student's attendance requirement.

Excused Absences: A parent must provide an explanation in writing for any absence upon the student's arrival or return to school, for the absence to be potentially excused. Student's may submit their parent notes or doctor's excuses to the front office.

A student absent for more than three consecutive days due to personal illness must bring a doctor's or health clinic note confirming the condition that caused the absence.

Please note: The district is not required to excuse any absence, even when the parent provides a note explaining the absence, unless the absence is an exemption under compulsory attendance laws.

Unexcused Absences:
At the secondary level, when an absence is unexcused, the student may not make up missed work and could be subject to discipline and legal action for truancy.

Please note: If the reason for the absence is deemed unacceptable by the administrator, the absence will be unexcused. If the administrator determines that the unexcused absence is due to extenuating circumstances, make-up work will be allowed.

THE FACT THAT PARENTS KNOW AND APPROVE OF AN ABSENCE WILL NOT ALTER THE FACT THAT IT CAN BE UNEXCUSED OR CONSIDERED TRUANCY.

Pre-Arranged Absence

  • The student must be absent with the parent's knowledge and consent.
  • Arrangements have to be made with the principal prior to the absence.
  • This type of absence is one that does not meet the criteria of the legally excused absence, but one the principal may believe to be acceptable.
  • Pre-arranged absences are limited to 2 excused absences for fall and spring.

To request a pre-arranged absence please submit a written request at least 2 days in advance of the anticipated absence for evaluation.
